Heroes aren’t born. They’re made.
They’re made in circumstance. They’re made in character. And they’re made in training. Lots and lots of training.
And that is certainly true when it comes to the vigilante called Red Sinner.
In this preview of “Battlerock Comics Presents” #02, we see the woman who will become Red Sinner train like she’s never trained before.
“The Powerhouse scenes were fun to do,” said writer/creator David 2. “It’s a little-utilized feature in Champion Online, so I really had free reign to show off the character as she learned how to fight and how to maneuver.”
David 2 said that work on this story involved plenty of costume changes for the principal characters, especially for the title character.
“We’re seeing the progress of our main character into becoming Red Sinner, the character first seen in the pages of ‘Future’s Guardian’. She doesn’t start out wearing the hood and cape. The transition from the young woman she was into the vigilante you see at the end required different outfits and different appearances. It’s like seeing a caterpillar become a butterfly.”
The issue also introduces the readers to Red Sinner’s mentor, Ravenclaw.
“Ravenclaw was only mentioned in ‘Future’s Guardian’ #16,” said David 2, “but it was clear that he played an important role in Red Sinner’s career. We also know that in ‘Future’s Guardian’, he’s dead. So the obvious question to ask is what happened to him. Why is she trying to live up to his legacy?”
Readers of other Battlerock Comics publications may also recognize the civilian name of Red Sinner as someone featured in yet another comic that takes place in a certain other “city”. David 2 says that the name is not a coincidence.
“There is a mystery surrounding Red Sinner’s life and how it connects to another person with the same name. She’s not the only one with that kind of connection, either. So the question is… why? That’s something that gets explored in future issues.”
