He’s been seen occasionally in the past few issues, but we will finally get to see and know more of John Battle starting with the upcoming issue of “Future’s Guardian”.
According to creator David 2, John Battle is a character that he’s been eager to show off for a while.
“While I’m proud of Galatea (Future) in all of her various incarnations, John Battle and his uncle, John Battlerock, are my signature heroes. I couldn’t show-off Battlerock X in the ‘City of Heroes’ before its official shutdown (in 2012), so when I created John Battle in the world of the Champions, it was with the plan that he would be included in this comic series.”
As was mentioned in his introduction in Issue #12, John Battle comes from a long line of warriors and heroes whose exploits became the inspiration for many western legends. In a world where supernatural and super-powered forces are commonplace, it’s easy to see how a family line of heroes could come about. But what makes the Battle family stand out?
“John Battle and the rest of his family stand up for what is right,” said David 2. “Bullies use strength and aggression to get what they want. The Battle family use a greater strength, but they also use it wisely, for a good reason.”
And, as seen in this preview, it’s a never-ending struggle for John. He can’t even get a cup of coffee without having to take on some thugs.
Of course, John doesn’t have to work alone. As you can see from the cover, a certain redheaded vigilante has been spending some time with him. Just how much time remains to be seen.
“Future’s Guardian” #15 will go online on May 31st.
