Superheroes have a traditional habit of making enemies, and not just the supervillain variety. It’s an occupational hazard for them.
And sometimes the really worst of the bunch are the ones without powers.
In “Furia and the Guardians” #23, the resident “investigator” for the Guardians of the Dawn superhero group does some investigating on the weird twists and connections involving a new hero named Streetangel. When all indications point to the U.S. Marshals and their Federal Witness Protection Program, it’s up to Jason Knight to see if it’s true.
But what he finds is something completely unexpected.
For those who are new to the world of the Guardians, Simon Barrister is an old nemesis of the supergroup.
A corporate specialist hired by Lord Lee Geddy of the Rocinante Group, Barrister was tasked with destroying the Guardians, and he came close to doing just that. With help of the traitor hero StarCygnus, Barrister got his hands on all of the secrets of the group and was prepared to sell them on the black market to the highest bidder. It took a small group of Guardians led by John Cole to reacquire the information.
Then, with help from Europe’s greatest investigator, Shodden Freud, Jason Knight hunted down Barrister and brought him to justice.
So what does Barrister have to do with the current mystery surrounding Streetangel?
You’ll just have to wait until May 26th for the answer.
But in the meanwhile, feel free to brush up by reading some of the issues of “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight”, especially issues 10, 14, 17, and 28, and find out why Simon Barrister would give any hero pause.
