When it comes to creating a character, sometimes you get inspiration from the weirdest of places.
Take, for instance, our newest villain in the upcoming issue of “Furia and the Guardians”.
Steamphunk was actually created through an overplayed pop song. And, honestly, when aren’t they being overplayed?
One day a certain comic creator was driving through the afternoon rush when he hears yet another replay of Mark Ronson’s song “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars. The chorus of “Uptown Funks You Up” being repeated over and over and over again inspires him to change the lyrics a little bit so it would include another word that starts with “f”.
And then the thought occurred to him… what if there was a villain like this? Someone annoying, who thinks he has style, who tries to be cool while he’s bashing heads in.
What if you had a heavy-metal head-banging gang-banger who was more funk than metal and went steampunk instead of metal punk?
Then you have Steamphunk!
Steamphunk stands out from the other Freakshow gang members because he doesn’t look like your typical heavy-metal punk with implants and prosthesis. Yes he has prosthesis, but he tries to dress with a little more style. He’s also the leader of the Freakshow, which is sort of strange since even his own troops don’t think he’s “metal” enough to be their leader. But he has a few things that the gang needs, and they’re not exactly in a position to say “no” to him being their leader.
So the real question is… how will this new leader handle himself when facing three superheroes?
That’s something you’ll have to wait until August 28th to find out… when “Furia and the Guardians” #7 finally goes online!
