You may have noticed a certain stamp appearing on the covers starting with Issue #5 of “Future’s Guardian”…
Some of you may even confuse it with the old Comics Code Authority stamp, and the similarities are intentional.
But this is a different stamp for a different group.
Back in the days when our comics were released under the parent brand of Get Brutal Productions, I was part of a group called the City of Comic Creators.
The CCC was founded in 2008 as a way to bring fan-made comic creators together to pool their resources and help improve the quality of their City of Heroes-based creations. The group had a private section in the official COH forums and its own MediaWiki resource website. You may have noticed the CCC logo on the City-based publications, including “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight”, “The Guardian Powers”, and “Tales from Paragon City”.
The corporate-dictated shutdown of the MMO closed the forum, but the MediaWiki website continues and we even have a Facebook group to try to keep in touch with some of the members.
So why haven’t you seen this stamp with some of the earlier covers for “Future’s Guardian” or for “The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future”?
Simple: because those comics take place in the world of Champions Online, and until December of 2012, the City of Comic Creators was primarily dedicated to the City of Heroes.
But with the demise of “The City”, the CCC was able to expand their scope to cover ALL MMO-based fan-made comics and move to the new MMO Comic Index resource site. That also means that I can now use the CCC logo for these comics as well.
And rather than use the same logo, I decided to use the special CCC stamp that I helped to design to replace the old CCA stamp some comic creators had been using. You can find out more about the history of the Comics Code Authority and why it’s wrong to continue to use its stamp by checking out its entry in the MMO Comic Index.
Meanwhile, I’m glad to be able to say that this comic series is a PROUD part of the City of Comic Creators!
