For the past two issues, Galatea Future’s adventures have been shadowed by a young sword-wielding woman named Starlett. She’s been busy making a name for herself and hopefully getting “someone’s” attention. But who is she? Why is she shadowing Galatea? Why is she trying to get attention for what she does?
In “Future’s Guardian” #4, we’ll get a look at Starlett’s day and what it is like for her to be a “street vigilante”. How does she live? Why does she wear nothing more than lingerie and an overcoat?
And what is a “legal vigilante”? Isn’t that a contradiction in terms?
Writer David 2 explains it this way:
“When this issue was being proofed, one of the first comments made was that in the same page we had Starlett calling herself both a ‘registered hero’ and a ‘vigilante’, and that was confusing to them. ‘Vigilantes’ are, by their nature, outlaws. They operate outside of the law. And here we have people wearing capes and cowls and operating under their own rules, and yet they’re also registered with government and sanctioned to do what they want. And, as it has been established in ‘The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future’ #4, they even get paid for it! So one of the reviewers – a fellow comic creator – came up with the idea of a ‘legal vigilante’. They’re not government agents, but they’re also not ‘outlaws’. And referring to them as ‘vigilantes’ is just ingrained in the culture. It’s like calling police officers ‘Coppers’ because once upon a time their badges were made of copper. We can say ‘Copper’ today and people still know that we mean ‘police officers’. “
Future’s Guardian #4 goes online on June 1st.
