Galatea Powers Gets Her Own Series
GEORGIA – 09/28/2025 – For the first time in almost a decade, Battlerock Comics will return to Paragon City, the “City of Heroes”, with the very first comic book character that creator David 2 showcased being given her own solo series.
“Galatea Powers” will be an ongoing series by Battlerock Comics by writer/creator David 2. The series takes place in the “City of Heroes Homecoming” MMORPG, owned by NC Soft, and developed from the original “City of Heroes” game that was officially discontinued in 2012 but is now maintained through a licensed private server.
“Galatea Powers has always been one of my favorite characters to work with,” said David 2. “And when I made my return to the City of Heroes, thanks to the folks at COH Homecoming, I knew she needed to be back as well.”
Galatea, the strange refugee from another universe, first appeared in “Guardians of the Dawn” (later renamed “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight”) Issue 01 back in 2007. Described by David 2 as “a pastiche of several super-powered female heroes”, she became a popular character in the pages of “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight” as well as crossing over into other comics.
Over the years, her origins were revised and evolved. Her appearance was changed at the request of game developers, and a new storyline called “Galatea Rising” was created to highlight her transformation. An alternate future version of her would eventually cross over to the MMO world of Champions Online, where she is known as Galatea Future in her own series “Future’s Guardian”. With the introduction of the Praetorian Universe in “City of Heroes: Going Rogue”, readers were introduced to a Praetorian version of Galatea called Furia Powers, who would later be given a starring role in her own series, “Furia and the Guardians”.
Galatea was last seen in “Furia and the Guardians”, even taking over the title of the comic for a few issues before her “sister” returned long enough to end the series with Issue #25 in 2017.
“Galatea Powers” will focus primarily on the titular character, says David 2, with new settings and a new status.
“Galatea had previously been part of a larger group. Whether it’s with the Guardians of the Dawn or with the extended Powers Family, she was always one of many. She’s had the benefits of a sizable base, one that helped save the world at one point, and help from allies, including other superhero groups. When we next see her in the first issue, pretty much all that will change.”
Part of that change, David 2 explained, will be because of the events told in a previous series set in Paragon City, namely “Task Force Twilight”. It was a mini-series that did not include Galatea Powers or any member of the Powers family but still had an impact on the superhero community in that world.
“In ‘Task Force Twilight’, a group of Guardians along with a few other heroes took on a rogue squad of police officers. This caused conflict between the heroes and the police department, resulting in the police department cutting off all assistance to the hero community for a brief time. That conflict has since poisoned relations between heroes and the police, so officers that used to be helpful with heroes now see then more as a problem than an ally.”
“Task Force Twilight” only had five issues, but David 2 says their story will be concluded in text form in the new series.
“We will be picking up where we left off in Issue Five with a series of text-only backstories. What happened to Cardinal Syn and the others will be explained, and the conflict will come to an end.”
The new series will also catch readers up with what has happened to Galatea herself in the years since “Furia and the Guardians”.
“When last we saw Galatea,” said David 2, “she was on the path to becoming an incarnate hero. She was getting more powerful. She was getting noticed by certain cosmic entities, and not just because of her alternate-future self who was already the highest incarnate. So what happened to that? Why isn’t she an incarnate already? Those answers will start being explained with the first issue.”
As with all previous issues published by Battlerock Comics, “Galatea Powers” will be free of charge due to the content rights and settings. As with all other MMO-based stories, all characters and content are owned by the MMO companies that develop said games, so while the creators may come up with stories based on the characters, all rights still belong to those entities. “Galatea Powers” issue #1 is currently in production as of this release.
